🍂 Wrapping Up September: Wins, Lessons & What’s Next

Keenia Adams • September 30, 2025

As September winds down, we know many families are feeling a mix of emotions—relief, exhaustion, pride, and maybe even a little frustration. The start of the school year is full of big transitions, and every small step forward counts.

At EmpowerED Advocates, we’ve spent the month walking alongside families just like yours—reviewing IEPs, supporting evaluations, and celebrating every “win,” big or small. Here's what we’ve learned (and what we recommend as we head into October).

🎉 September Wins We’re Celebrating

  • Parents gained confidence asking the right questions in IEP meetings
  • Several students received updated evaluations to reflect current needs
  • Families advocated for and secured needed accommodations
  • Progress monitoring plans were added to multiple IEPs
  • New tutoring sessions launched to boost literacy and math skills

👏🏽 Every win is a step toward equity.

🧠 What to Reflect On

As you look back on this month:

  • Did your child’s school implement all agreed services?
  • Are you receiving communication about how your child is doing?
  • Do you feel confident that the plan in place is working?

If the answer to any of these is “not yet,” now is the time to reach out.

📌 Parent Action Items for Early October

  1. Check in with your child’s teachers
A quick email or message asking how your child is adjusting can open the door to honest conversations.
  2. Review classroom work samples
Look for patterns in strengths and challenges, these can guide support plans and future IEP goals.
  3. Schedule a mid-fall progress review
If your child has an IEP or 504 Plan, don’t wait until November conferences to advocate.

✨ Our Fall Services Are in Full Swing

We’re currently supporting families with:

  • Progress check-ins and IEP plan reviews
  • Early childhood evaluations
  • Tutoring tailored to IEP/504 goals
  • In-person and virtual school observations

📲 Schedule a consultation today if you’d like help reviewing your child’s plan before October gets too busy.

💬 From Our Team to Yours

We see the way you show up for your child; through the paperwork, the school emails, the bedtime worries. You are doing the work of a strong advocate. And we’re here to help you do it without burnout or overwhelm.

Keep going. You're not alone.
